Process control system for the packaging industry

New process control system optimizes workflows in the packaging industry

Starting situation

Amcor is a leading global packaging company. It manufactures a wide range of rigid and flexible packaging solutions for a wide array of industries and products.

The production machines at the Swiss site in Goldach require different production parameters for each product that is transmitted to the machine control system. The relevant process data must be recorded and analyzed. Energy use and relevant data from the exhaust system must also be captured and evaluated.

Project objectives

Amcor was searching for a solution to record and analyze production parameters and process data. The energy values and exhaust system data were also intended to be captured.

Technical implementation

The new process control system will be built based on Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft .NET. In the process, our proven modules (see software development for industrial applications) for recipe, alarming, energy recording, and user management will be used and adapted to Amcor's specific requirements. The complete logging of process values is implemented with the proven Historian Server from Wonderware (new Aveva).

Results

The process control system meets all of Amcor’s requirements. It also integrates optimally with the workflows at Amcor. It forms an outstanding basis for adaptations and add-ons resulting from new or modified client needs.

«We were able to quickly and easily implement the customer’s requirements thanks to the flexibility of IMT Factory and are well equipped for future challenges.»
